Why I Paint Joy
I don't paint joy because I'm ignoring what's hard. I paint it because I need it. And I'm guessing you might need it too.
My paintings are bright. So bright! Full of color and happy energy. That's intentional.
I finally finished "The Gathering." It's a sweet warm pond full of koi fish and lotus blossoms, and a few frogs swimming around the lily pads. When I was working on it, I kept imagining what's happening just under the surface. Fish swimming in pairs, some swimming alone, a little tadpole finding its way, a frog peeking out from behind a leaf. All of them different, all of them just doing their thing, all of them sharing the same water in this one quiet moment.
That's what I wanted to capture. A peaceful moment in the middle of a busy, noisy world. I think that's what art can do. It won't change everything, but it can give us a place to rest our eyes. A little pause.
I have the good fortune of working part time at The Artists' Gallery where I get to immerse myself in an abundance of gorgeous art. It soothes my soul and is a constant reminder for me of why I love to make and share art. Especially now.
I finished The Gathering a couple of weeks ago, and it sold before I could even get it on my website. (A collector saw it and claimed it immediately. I can't blame her, haha.) I'm thrilled it found its home, and I loved making it. If it speaks to you, feel free to order a print here. Several sizes available, even framing options!
Thanks for being here 💖
